Whitman didn't use the best quality paper! Nice edition for the young history student. 4-6th grade reading level.

Slight crazing along front bottom edge and top right corner of front cover, slight wrinkle. Cover is sepia tone picture of the pueblos, front and back covers. Wrapped jacket. Inside front flap about Junior Literary Guild, back inside flap , lists of titles of this guild. Reading ages, 9,10,11, as stated.

Endpapers are plain nad left front in inscribed with the owners name, neatly in ink. Black and white, pen/ink type illustrations. There are 6 of them including the frontpiece. 254 pages are all clean and tight and there are 16 pages of advertisements for young peoples books by this publisher. This looks to be a 1st edition of this title, one copyright date, publisher, title and then author, all listed on the copyright page. This author also wrote, Budd Boyds' Triumph. Nice edition to this hard to find series.

Endpapers are plain paper; high gloss b/w illustrated frontpiece, no other illustrations. 255 pages + 2 blanks; page 27, lower right corner has a small fold crease line. Pages was straightened out, but crease where folded shows, otherwise pages are clean and tight, though has some aging color begining along the outside edges. Neat WWI story of the navy.

Inside front flap fold is a synopsis of this book, stating it is one of 15 titles in series by the U of M, History of the Modern World. Vol one is Seller ID 001417. Books are in a cardboard slipcover box. See picture. Box shows rubbing along all edges from shelf wear. These books came from a private home library. Nice set.

A variety of non-fiction subjects are told by a little boy Billy and his discovery of these subjects. Beautiful colored endpapers portraying the various subjects in the book in a postcard tpe frame on a yellow/orange background. Book is very tight and clean. Spine slightly different color from covers from shelf wear, with top/bottom slightly bent. Four corners are good. See scan. Pages are all clean and tight and on heavy highgloss type paper. A great book for the home-schooled and any collector of illustrated books.

The book pages of text are a different paper than the 1st 4 pages. Title page has New York, Worthington Co, 747 Broadway 1887 date. This edition appears to be publised by J.B. Lippincott. Title page has had a small tear repaired with archival glue ( not me ) and is brittle. Chapter page is also delicate but secure. 833 text pages are secured. Very interesting biography.

Top/bottom spine is slightly rolled from shelf wear. $ corners are VG. Top right corner of front cover has a smudge, otherwise covers are clean. Protected by a DJ. All pages are clean and tight. DJ is in a mylar slipcover and is quite nice. Almost like new. 4 flap fold corners are good, top/bottom spine show minimal wearing before put into a slipcover. Back cover of DJ is a commentary by various authors in praise of this author. Front inside flap is synopsis of this book and back inside flap contiues with the synopsis and the bio-clip of author. Great edition for the history buff.
