This is the 1965, junior animal book the dutton Award Winner. 1st edition as stated on the copyright page. Book is blue cloth with bears picture in red on the front cover. Red lettering on the spine of title, author and publisher. Covers clean and bright. DJ is in a brodart slipcover and is quite nice. Slight rubbing on the front flap fold near the bottom and the top front flap fold is also sligihtly rubbed and has tiny chip. Minor wearling along bottom edge.Top/bottom spine have slight rubbing. Back cover is whilte background and has 2 small brown spots. Back cover is bio-clip of the author. Front inside flap and back have synopsis of the story. Great book for the animal lover, good story of Alaska before statehood.
